You will be experienced in managing distribution/installer channels and be comfortable in providing sales leadership, mentoring and support to these partners. You will be the conduit between the market and the European head office and will as a result need to be a strong communicator and capable of bridging sales, engineering, business development, strategy and product management.

Individuelles Profil

• Abgeschlossenes Studium als Elektroingenieur oder -techniker

• Erste Berufserfahrung in der Planung oder Errichtung von Starkstromanlagen und /oder dezentralen Erzeugungsanlagen wünschenswert

• Elektrotechnische Konzeption und Detailplanung von Fotovoltaikanlagen auf Dach- und Freiflächen,

insbesondere Planung von Starkstromanlagen (Niederspannung und Mittelspannung), sowie von datentechnischen Anlagen zur Anlagenüberwachung, Fernsteuerung und Regelung

• Abstimmung mit internationalen Behörden, Netzbetreibern sowie den internen Fachabteilungen

• Prüfung von Planungsunterlagen interner Fachabteilungen sowie externer Planungsbüros

Smart Metering Technology Specialist

Our client’s purpose is to create a more sustainable future through coupling energy supply with innovative technology solutions. They are well-funded, start-up energy supplier and entering a growth-stage.

They are now seeking an experienced, smart metering specialist, with a background in the UK energy supply industry to setup, maintain and continuously improve the smart metering technical asset management function within the Industry and Metering department for the business. You will be responsible for ensuring the business manages the full lifecycle of our smart metering assets minimising adverse customer impacts and cost of asset ownership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technically assess the suitability of new smart metering assets within a formal commercial procurement framework.

  • Manage the introduction of new metering asset types into the business’s portfolio, IT estate and installation supply chain agents.

  • Specify, setup and manage a remote smart meter issue diagnostics function for all smart meter types within the business portfolio.

  • Manage the collation, investigation and required remedial action for all reported metering faults.

  • Manage metering asset warranty claims with the appropriate Metering Asset Provider (MAP) / Manufacturers.

  • Impact assess proposed metering and or communications module firmware updates and manage a governance process to ensure firmware is deployed without impacting customer service or installed asset life.

  • Specify, setup and manage a smart metering events and alerts function to filter automated metering anomaly reporting and were appropriate initiate follow on action.

  • Manage the selection and operation of external meter accuracy services.

  • Manage the smart meter encryption key lifecycle.

  • Participate in the annual SEC CIO security audit.

  • Work in partnership with other operational teams to deliver an excellent customer experience.

  • Engage with external supplier agents and key energy industry stakeholders to continuously improve smart metering asset performance and ensure adherence to applicable industry codes.

  • Manage relationship and be a key point of contact with industry bodies to own and address metering asset issues.

  • Represent the business on selected industry boards as required.

  • Provide timely reports, insight and recommendations on asset performance against electricity and gas targets to operational teams and senior stakeholders.

  • Evaluate and impact assess proposed metering asset changes and support the business with the implementation of change projects, inclusive of large-scale changes such as; mandatory HH settlement and Smart.

  • Support the delivery of metering asset reporting, analysis, and insight.

  • Support the successful establishment of the business within GB

  • Become a key member of the metering management team.

  • Liaise with third party service suppliers including: Meter Asset Providers (MAPs) / Meter maintenance Agents (MOP/MAM), Meter manufacturers, Meter accuracy test services.

  • Drive efficiency improvement through application of the continuous improvement lifecycle.

  • Champion the introduction of automation for the metering events and alerts business process

Knowledge, Skills and Experience


  • 5+ years’ technical experience of smart and or AMR metering assets and associated remote service processes for gas and electricity

  • Proven track record in delivering exceptional technical asset management outcomes

  • Deep understanding of gas and electricity smart metering products and associated firmware lifecycle management

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, and interpersonal skills

  • Experience of delivering continuous improvement initiatives

  • Analytical mind-set with strong excel skills


  • Deep understanding of asset defect and warranty management

  • Change, problem solving and continuous improvement skills with an ability to motivate project teams

  • Comfortable presenting to and engaging with stakeholders at all levels

  • Ability to concurrently manage multiple small-scale operational projects



Either 3rd Level qualification/university degree or equivalent work experience managing metering assets or services.


The role is based in Manchester and will include regular travel to metering agents and Dublin, Ireland.

The successful candidate will report to the Industry and Metering Manager.
