Position Description  

Our client, a well-funded, high-growth, energy supplier, wish to recruit a Forecasting Analyst to work in a new UK Energy Forecasting team to put in place the tools and systems to deliver best in class demand forecasts.  

Key Responsibilities  

•        Producing short-term and long-term forecasts for both gas and power domestic demand

•        Working closely with Trading to report on the overall business portfolio position

•        Measuring the forecast performance through targeted KPIs

•        Calculating commodity risk premiums

•        Providing insight and data to the Settlements team

•        Evaluating and approving commodity curves from Trading

•        Providing support on new hedging strategies

•        Submitting reports to OFGEM  

Knowledge, Skills and Experience  

•        Proven ability to work as part of a team

•        Good organisational and planning skills

•        2+ years’ experience of working in the GB energy or utilities sector (desirable)

•        Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, and internal personal skills

•        Analytical mind-set with strong excel skills

•        Mathematics, science, engineering, economics or similar degree level education

•        Ambitious and seeking to develop new capabilities.

DATA & INSIGHT ANALYST - GREATER LONDON

DATA & INSIGHT ANALYST - GREATER LONDON

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a fast growth, ethical Energy supplier, with a solid reputation in the UK and South Europe as a provider of clean energy and high standard customer service.

As a result of their expansion in the energy market, we are currently seeking a figure of Data & Insight Analyst to support their Operation and Commercial team.

Ideally, the right candidate will have experience in an operation environment within an energy supplier business.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supporting the Operations and Commercial teams by delivering data driven insight aiming to performance improvements.

  • Experience in manipulating complex datasets (including dirty data) with a range of programming tools.

  • Building, analysing and identifying trends/anomalies in reports.

  • Optimization of reporting tool performance.

  • Regularly presenting Insight to the business to which drives positive changes.

  • Automating existing processes.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Highly analytical with knowledge of statistical techniques and data cleansing.

  • Ability to simplify complex analytical output for communication in the business.

  • Ability to identify & develop most suitable statistical approach to support Operations and Commercial teams through analysis & insight.

  • Experience with analytical tools (preferably SQL, VBA or similar).

  • Understanding of the data requirements and technical required to support the analytical toolset

  • Highly numerate with data manipulation skills

  • 2 years+ experience. Energy sector background would be advantageous but not essential

As part of their continued growth across Europe, our client is establishing a new software development team in Seville, Spain and are seeking to engage with experienced Big Data Development engineers. 

This is a brand-new team in a well-respected Smart Energy solutions business giving the opportunity to be at the forefront of the new energy revolution.

Responsibilities:

  • Create data pipelines (batch and streaming using Spark and Kafka) to bring data from multiple sources to a variety of smart energy solutions (smart metering systems, meter data and asset analytics apps, connected home)

  • Develop big data ETL jobs that ingest, integrate, and export smart energy data

  • Document, debug, test, refactor, and prepare code for deployment

  • Be available to respond to escalations from customers and internal teams, as a technical subject matter expert

  • Diagnose internal or customer reported issues to determine the validity of the reported issue and undertake analysis and actions for resolution

  • To communicate effectively to both business and technical stakeholders within the project team

  • Develop relationships with key stakeholders, understanding their requirements and recommend/implement technical solutions and provide guidance as needed

  • To coach, guide and mentor junior members in the team

Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field

  • Experience creating IoT architectures with a massive ingestion of data

  • Big Data ecosystem expertise, such as Hadoop/Hive, Spark, HBase, Kafka, Kafka Streams, Presto or similar

  • Experience with NoSQL Databases like MongoDB, Cassandra… etc

  • Experience working with both structured and unstructured data, with a high degree of SQL knowledge

  • Experience with Azure and/or AWS a plus

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with evolving requirements and capability goals

  • Strong problem-solving skills and communication skills

  • Self-motivated, driven and independent individual

We are therefore seeking to engage with experts in data analytics and AI with experience of applying these disciplines to the energy and utilities sector. You will ideally have worked on or have a strong understanding of smart meter data or electrical network management solutions or a similar sector such as telecommunications network management.

Knowledge and experience in providing SaaS and of Cloud based technologies such as MS Azure, AWS, Google or similar solution is essential.

You must be fluent in both English and Italian. You must be an excellent and confident communicator and you must have a passion for this sector.
